The 9th annual National Walk @Lunch Day is Wednesday, April 29. Walking is an established way to improve personal health and help decrease the costs of healthcare.

Walking briskly and regularly does everything from keeping your weight down to decreasing your risk of heart attack and Type 2 diabetes. What’s more, after a lunchtime walk, you’ll return to your desk feeling more focused and productive.

More than 40 embassies will open their doors to DC visitors and residents this May 2. Participants can travel the world as they experience the food, art, dance, fashion, and music of different countries. In the past, visitors have been treated to karate demonstrations, dance performances, sari wrapping lessons, and henna demonstrations.

What You Need to Know


  • All embassies are open from 10am to 4pm, unless otherwise noted. 

  • Admission is free. Reservations are not required. 

  • Many embassies are within walking distance of the Dupont Circle and Van Ness Metrorail stations. Click here for tips and recommendations.

  • Many embassies require photo ID for admission. 

  • Embassies on International Drive are larger and often have shorter lines than those on Embassy Row.

On May 9th, 2015 the European Union Embassies and the EU Delegation to the United States open their doors to the public for the annual EU Embassies’ Open House: a day of family fun, food, culture and more. The event offers visitors a rare look inside the embassies and provides a unique opportunity for them to experience the cultural heritage and national traditions of the 28 member countries.

Bicycling to work is a healthy and cost-effective alternative to drive-alone commuting. Join Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association on Friday, May 15, for Bike to Work Day 2015. Ride with thousands of cyclists, new and experienced, and enjoy a healthy commute that helps improve traffic congestion and air quality in the metropolitan Washington region. There will be free T-shirts, food, beverages, and prizes for registrants who attend.

Join more than 14,000 area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a fun, healthy, and environmentally-friendly way to get to work. A record-breaking number of cyclists are expected to participate again this year so register soon at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org

Register for free and visit one of 79 regional pit stops throughout Washington, D.C., and surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia; receive refreshments, and be entered in raffles for new bicycles.

Cyclists must register for one pit stop but are welcome to visit any of the 79 pit stops along their way to work. Free event T-shirts will be available at pit stops for the first 14,000 registrants who attend. Locate specific start/end times for all pit stops at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org

Bicycle commuter convoys - led by experienced bicycle commuters - will travel throughout the region. All levels of cyclists are welcome to join the convoys.
