Bike Savvy Tips
It's important to not only know the rules of the road before you head out on a bike, but also to know how to ride safely while sharing the road with drivers, other bikers and pedestrians. We teamed up with BikeArlington to bring you a series of savvy biking tips to ensure you know how to ride both smart and safe as you make your way around DC by bike!
Do the right thing: Follow all traffic laws.
Follow the leader: Ride in single file; except when passing.
Go with the flow: Ride in the same direction as traffic.
Play it safe: Be careful at intersections; look out for turning vehicles.
Send a signal: Use hand signals to indicate your intentions.
Shed some light: Use lights when you're riding at night or in low visibility conditions.
Use protection: When worn correctly, helmets protect your noggin'.
Use your judgment: Ride on sidewalks only when necessary. Riding on the sidewalk is illegal in downtown Washington, DC.
Don't be dodgy: Ride in a straight line; do not dodge between parked cars.
